Here it is a Mourning Cloak. In the UK I believe they refer to it as "Grand Surprise" or "Camberwell Beauty", which has to do with it's habit of sunning along trails in the morning and flying up when startled. I believe it was first ID'd in Camberwell a few centuries ago - hence the common name. I don't think they are real common in the UK.
