The Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society (PRRPS), restore, maintain and operate a collection of historical and heritage steam and diesel locomotives and rolling stock over the last remaining 39 kilometres (24 miles), section of the former narrow gauge (3' 6''), Commonwealth Railway's Central Australian Railway between Quorn and Port Augusta in South Australia's mid north. The society, managed and operated entirely by volunteers, periodically run various trains including the Afghan Express which is a six hour excursion from Port Augusta to Quorn and return. The railway winds through the picturesque Pichi Richi Pass in the southern Flinders Ranges.
Built in 1925, NM 25 prepares to depart Port Augusta with its consist of 100 year old passenger coaches.

Steam trains take me back to growing up in the Adelaide Hills. I lived near the main south line out of Adelaide and frequently watched and rode on trains hauled by steam locomotives. The day out described in my post brought back pleasant memories of the smell, sight and sound of traveling with steam. Thanks for looking Paloviejo.

Thanks for looking Jay Pat. Sadly I did not get any inside cab photos. Some of the crew had a four hour drive to get home after they stabled the locomotive for the night so not surprisingly they did not feel like hanging around.
