Grazing Cows outside Amsterdam

I took this shot several years ago; liked the simplicity of a late afternoon rural scene right on the outskirts of Amsterdam. I dug it out for the UHH Landscape session, inspired by a recent post of a solitary cow on the brow of a hill. Comments and criticisms welcome.

Did you consider cropping away the water? Or the water and half the rocks? Or all the water and the rocks? I think you'd have a better image of grazing cows with less unrelated foreground. Try keeping it "wide", say at 16:9, while lessening the foreground. Consider too removing the random cow entering from the upper right.

Hey Mark, I really like the clouds and light on the grass, cows, pasture. I was thinking that last evening and thinking of ideas of how you might bring those details 'closer' to the viewer within the frame. But, I found I'd only captured the cropping ideas and had moved onto something else before reading again after the re-edit window had closed. Everything was meant as encouragement and I look forward to the results if you revisit the cropping.

There's a "line" through the rocks where I'd try placing the bottom margin, look for the brown leaves in the rocks in the lower right for that position. I'd also try the placing the right margin slightly to the left so a fence post is not on the edge of the frame of this new version to move the cows slightly off center. That is, bring the lower right corner slightly up and into the frame using the cropping tool. Not a promise it would be better, but something to experiment on with a bit further tweaking.

Photography is a subjective endeavor BUT
You MIGHT like the composition of the rockless version a bit better if the cows were not so centered. Try cropping in from the right edge about 3/8 of the way in to the cows.
