Yesterday we were at the Sony Bono Wildlife Reserve, Westmoreland, CA just for a few minutes. I saw a large Blue Heron fly into a congested canal so I thought if I go quickly he won’t see me and I’ll get a good 'shot'. This was about 60 feet away. I started taking photos and couldn’t believe what I saw. He had caught a fish and was trying to get it’s head down so he could swallow it and it kept moving to get away to live.
Then I was ready to quit when it dropped out of it’s mouth and you’ll see the splash at the bottom. Then he was disgusted and flew away. I probably distracted it and couldn’t get it ready to swallow and fortunate for the fish it fell back into the water.
It was another reminder to always take your camera!
