Bubble gum, bailing wire, duct tape and WD40 are my choices. Since I'm from Texas, ask any farmer or rancher and most of them will agree.

I thought the guys here would appreciate this. My Dad is an engineer and he always told me two things to have in your tool box are WD-40 and duct tape.

This is great because engineering is one profession where most people consider engineers as having little or no humor.

I rely heavily on stainless safety wire. Comes in different sizes and if you know how to wrap it, you can patch most anything.

As my son has pointed out "It ain't broke. It just lacks duct tape!".

Did you know??? That Duck tape was used in WW2 for the same reason we use it today. It is strong and waterproof like a Duck's ass.
After the War, there was a building boom. Central ai was being put in a lot of those early homes. The guys putting in the A/C needed something to join the sections of.......Ducts. They remembered Duck Tape now referred to Duct Tape.

A coat hanger will do in a pinch.
If you can find one made of wire instead of plastic.

Include a Swiss Army knive and that's all that's needed.

yes - we engineers can be a bit ready to fix things. We travel for 6-7 weeks overseas most years and I carry insulation tape, mini screwdrivers and small tubes of epoxy. multitool etc. I have used most of them at some point. I even cleaned the sensor dust on my wife's Panasonic point and shoot.

Wire coat hangers are very useful too.

I believe that "duct" tape was originally just to repair or assemble ducts for air conditioning and heating. However it is easy to mispronounce as duck if you don't know what it was for. Then lots of home handymen found how useful it was as a temporary fix for broken things. Now, there is an actual manufacturer who uses the name "Duck tape". with an animated duck as it's logo.
