I have a Nikon D5200 and I raise Maltese and Yorkies, and I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I like to take close up and so many pictures are not clear just blurry. I have a website and need to post beautiful pictures because the puppies are beautiful but not the way I take it.

If you post a few of your photos, be sure to click on Store Original, it will help us to ascertain what you might do to come up with better photos. Offhand it could be shutter speed, ISO setting, aperture too small or a combination of all three. Are you inside or outside. All make a difference. Sounds like an easy fix though. The camera is certainly capable of great photographs.

I see this is your first post. Welcome aboard. When answering it will help a lot if you click on Quote Reply before answering.

Do you use a tripod? Try shooting 5 or 6 shots in a row rapid fire. The pups are probably moving. This way you get them with eyes open and ears not twitching. I got a Blue Heeler, her ears are always moving.

I do not use a tripod but they are well behaved and sit real still I only take them when they do not move. I think I have the wrong setting. I am still learning using the camera and need to learn how to take portrait pictures. I see some that are so clear and mine are not as clear

I have a D5200 and it works just fine with many lenses. Which lens do you have on the camera and do you have autofocus enabled?

You really need to post some photos, with uploads. I'm sure that you can get some help but "Not clear" just isn't enough to go on. You're likely to get a dozen or more suggestions, all addressed to different problems, but likely you have only one basic mistake you're making, and it's likely pretty easy to fix. Just take the time to upload one or two and you'll get a lot of very specific and useful advice. This is a very capable camera.

I still don't see any pictures. Did you forget to click the last step "Attach photos"? You wouldn't be the first (or last) to think you'd uploaded but didn't. I've certainly done it!

You maybe getting to close, all lenses have a minimum focusing distance, you can obtain that information about your lens from it's manual or from the manufacturer's website.

In lieu of any sample images, could you tell us what lens you are using? Is the dial on the camera set to A or P or some other setting? Keeping things simple, try putting the top dial in the Scene position then rotate the thumb wheel in the upper right corner on the back until you get to the Closeup or Portrait modes - try both.

Looks like that lens has a minimum focus distance of .9 feet, lets say 1 foot. You should be able to get pretty darn close. Can you tell us what the shutter speed, aperture and ISO are for one of the blurry images? You should be able to right click on the image file and look at the properties of the image (on a Mac you'd choose Get Info)

Another way to get the info would be to look at the image in the camera, with the blurry image on the screen press the up arrow 1 or more times until the screen shows the shutter speed, aperture and ISO for that particular image.

Thanks for being patient :)

Try the Close up or Portrait Scene mode. Maybe also change your ISO to 800 (should affect blur but should improve image quality).
