Voss, I just can't agree. To use a musical metaphor; its like when the piece comes back to the tonic for resolution. The original crop resolves the tension in the girl's eyes, the second crop leaves it hanging.

It really boils down to how we want the picture to end.

Quite true. I absolutely hate fictional works that end with no resolution to the stresses created within the body of the work, and have since I was maybe 10.

What?! You did not like the fact that you had to wait a whole week to see the next chapter of those serial cliffhangers?

For the most part they eventually resolved. Weekly, or monthly chapters like Dickens A Christmas Carol do almost always resolve.
