Beautiful shot at a site with such tragic history
Been there & found it to be a sad place -- All those young lives lost ---
Like your photo -- It expresses what we felt
Been there many times. One of my ancestors was in CO B, 23rd Ohio infantry. That’s the unit that snuck behind the hill above the Burnside Bridge, forded the creek and drove the Confederates off the hill obove the bridge where repeated Union advances were repulsed by artillary and rifle fire. That action contributed to the battle culminating in the Confederate retreat towards the Potomac. There’s a small marker atop the hill where the 23rd camped. I’ve spent many a day in the park. I donated a copy of his diary to the park library. I inherited the original. It’s on file under the 23rds heading. Yes, it is a solemn place. Thanks for your post.
Somber! Really presents a mood that goes with the area.

That tree has a lot of character.
Very nicely done. Sets the mood I think you sought.
Wonder how much lead is embedded in that tree?
Nice processing and photo--the foreboding mood fits the location well.
You have captured the agony of that battle. If I had not seen the title of your post I would still have known what that scene had witnessed.
