Move to fibre (or fiber if you prefer) and you won't have the landline anymore.

Like in sci-fi it's a communicator.
What are we going to do when all the cool gadgets from fiction becomes fact?
We have wrist communicators, computer pads, medical diagnostic computers. Science is working on real transporters. We have lasers, tasers, microwave weapons, sound weapons, unmanned aircraft, reusable spacecraft, we have sent craft beyond our solarsystem, it is mind boggling how far we have come in 100 years. But remember, if we lose technology, if say a solar flare wipes the electrical grid out, or fries our communication satellites, how long will it take to regain that technology? How many people will perish not able to fend for themselves?
Sorry, long winded response!

It's a distraction. I have a landline and only use cell phone when travelling. I'll admit that for road emergencies it is helpful. Though for many years i survived without it and probably could again.

What line is it attached to?
If it's a land line, it will no longer work if you deactivate the land line.
Cordless doesn't mean wireless in the sense of a wireless network, just no wires to the handset.

You are thinking of a smartphone as if it's just a mobile telephone. A smartphone's phone feature is often the least used of its capabilities these days.
This post was written on my Samsung Galaxy s8 Plus smartphone while I have some idle time waiting in the checkout line at my local supermarket.

Sometimes I like to disconnect myself from emails, texts, calls and yes even the internet. Especially when I'm not home! I have used all the features on my phone but I really do tire of the constant "chatter".

as for phone plates in the wall, just disconnect and push in then put a small piece of drywall in, let dry, sand, redo a few times and paint..... easily done..... ALL GONE. ....done a lot of them. i defy you to find any of them in my home.

A phone is what I have on the wall in my house. The thing I carry around in my pocket is a device that takes and/or transmits photos, a portable computer that can do many of the basic things that computers can do through software applications, and it can make basic phone calls just like my wall phone does. I haven’t figured out what to call it other than a cell phone, or just phone. I tend to call it my camera/phone but that doesn’t really do it justice. Your thoughts.
