I will be heading to Houston soon for a wedding, and hoping for some free time to do a little photography. I will be staying in the Spring, Tx. area. Does anyone have a suggestion or 2 for some great Photo ops?

I live in Spring, TX. I've been here over 23 years and the area has changed a great deal. Where before it was a quiet distant suburb of Houston with cow pastures and single lane roads, it has transformed into a bustling suburbia with strip malls, restaurants, car dealerships and businesses of all types.

Houston metro is HUGE. Traffic can get intense. If you go down I-45 towards Houston, you will see the interchange that was featured on Modern Marvels. Very high, lots of off ramps.

I will list a few areas of interest in and around Spring in case you do not want to make day trips to NASA, Galveston, etc.

You might look at going to Tomball just to the west on FM-2920, they have a couple of quaint "museums."

A little south of there is where Compaq then HP used to be located and it's now Lone Star College. Interesting campus. I used to go do business with Compaq then HP at the turn of the millennium at that location. Across SH-249 from Lone Star is Vintage Park just off Louetta. That would be a neat place to walk around and take some pictures, day and evenings. Very interesting shops and restaurants, fountains and so on. Just to the south of there is another park off Vintage Preserve road called Kickerillo-Mirscher Preserve.

On the east side of I-45, off FM-2920 is Old Town Spring. It's really only open on weekends, especially this time of year, but it's got a lot of neat, very quaint, shops and boutiques.

There is also the Mercer arboretum, near Humble, TX, south of Old Town Spring on Aldine-Westfield.

If you travel north on I-45, the next stop is The Woodlands, with lots of parks and malls. If you go north some more you will get to Huntsville, TX with the big statue of Sam Houston right next to the highway and location of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum.

You can also do all the other things listed above, Downtown Houston, NASA, Galveston, Ellington Field, etc.
