Check out the resale values and you'll pick Nikon Every time. Use for 5 years and sale, get at least half your money back. Sell one of the others after five years and see if you even get a bid.

I sold my old Nikon 80-200mm F2.8 D lens after trying out the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 for one weekend. The difference in focusing speed was amazing and the images were every bit as sharp, if not sharper, than my 20 year old workhorse. I then tried out the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm F2.8 and could see absolutely no performance improvement over the Sigma at all. I bought the Sigma and saved $1300 which went towards the purchase of my D800E. No regrets, and I am sure I will be using it for the NEXT 20 years, an excellent lens.

I have been using a Sigma 70-200 2.8 for over ten years, since f100 days. It has done well, saved a lot of $$ at the time and have seen no problems that amounted to anything. It is not VR, which would be nice, but I am most likely to send it in for cleaning and adjusting and keep it for several more years. I tend to resell lenses to my family of Nikon owners, so resale value, while important, is not the deciding factor for me.
