Thanks, Lesley. That was the largest oak tree I've ever seen.
I'm not sure how old it is, but I'm pretty sure it's older than
I am....LOL
When I saw those gnarly trees, I knew you and Karin would
love them, so I had to post those ugly buggers...

I love the owl hole tree in 1 and the live oaks and unusual ones Tim!
Thanks, Karin. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
I have to believe the "unusual" one must have had some kind
of disease. Not sure, but....

A Texas Madrone. These trees recover after fire in a way that is very odd. The new tree growth basically envelops the old burned tree. I nicknamed it "cyborg growth" and the effect, especially when the colors are deepened by rain, is striking. This shot is nothing more than documentation, but I still marvel at this phenomenon.
Pg. 13 - Wow, Tex, I've never seen or heard anything like that, so
I really appreciate you sharing the image and the back story.

How about a tree growing through and around an old, rusted-out safe?

I did too, I'd never seen it growing up so high on a living tree before, so I had to preserve it..

The story behind the safe is the original owner of the outdoor
restaurant put a potted tree (I think it was a fig) on top of
his safe, and somehow, it grew through the original container
and then through the old safe...I guess he was too busy
in the kitchen.
