Indiana Terminal Warehouse

This structure is located behind Union Station and downtown Indianapolis; it was constructed almost a century ago, originally having shops on the first floor and a warehouse on floors 2-5. A bridge went from the railroad mainline {which I was standing under when I took this photo} to doors on floors 2-3 (*) on the east side of the structure; the corresponding section in the back of the structure is open to the air, because as built there were loading docks there. This allowed a switching locomotive to move cars from the railroad mainline to the warehouse.

(*) you can see bricked-in rectangles on the right side of the structure in this photo just above the gray roll-up doors on the first floor.

Thank you for your comment.

I first became aware of this structure when I was researching a railroad known as the "Big 4" .... the Wikipedia article about the "Big 4" described this structure as "an old 'Big 4' maintenance facility", which didn't seem right to me since the main "Big 4" maintenance facility was just a couple of miles away. The 'New' basketball arena is just {East} across the street {they finally took down the railroad bridge, which was in the way} and the football dome is a mile or so west of there, so Indianapolis has been "nicing up" this area, including coble sidewalks and a sign explaining the true history of this structure.
