I am heading down to FL next Tuesday for 5 days. Can I get some UHH contemporaneous reports of the Rookery, Bunche, Estero and other active spots that are not to be missed next week. Wholly flexible solo trip and will be shooting twilight to twilight each day. Thanks in advance.

Around Tampa, Lettuce Lake Park. Around Ft. Myers, Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.
I'm sure others will give more ideas.

Sanibel- Ding Darling NWR (best on bicycle [open due to shutdown?]), Pine Island (colorful buildings, "artsy" culture), Ford-Edison Museum (yeah, a museum, but some photo ops), all in the Fort Myers area. Koreshan State Park (boardwalks, etc. the elusive "ghost orchid") in Estero.

If you can get a (and want to) kayak, and spend a day at it, any and all of Estero Bay is great for wildlife - and exercise. This is always on our agenda, usually starting in the Old Bonita area, and going down the Imperial River to Lover's Key. But, you can rent kayaks many places from Fort Meyers Beach on down. (Check weather and tides).

Whatever, though, lots of fun available, even for five days.

Good luck, enjoy, and show us some pics!

Also, the little Burrowing Owls on Marco Island. Anytime before 10AM and after 4PM travel to the Island. Coming in from the North, after you get well into town the street makes a right hand curve and goes over a raised canal bridge. Turn right on the first street after the canal, go one block and turn right, immediately on the left are two burrows. Well worth the trip!

I lived in the Tampa Area back in the 1980s. There are some beautiful parks and nature trails in Hillsboro, Pinellas, and Pasco Counties. Just have to go to Florida's website and see where you want to visit. In this time of year you definitely have a wide variety of things you can see and photograph.

Cape Coral also has Burrowing owls. They are almost everywhere, you can even see in vacant lots in most neighborhoods.

Agree with Myaka State Park - here are a couple of images I got there several years ago.
