OK. Let me try it this way. "understanding what you're seeing here" is the phrase on which "get a grip" operates.
Thus, one needs to understand what one is viewing in this picture. As pointed out by Scott, these are demonstration panels produced by various companies in hopes that their design would be chosen and thus get a contract to build the wall.
