In spring, the mountain snowmelt floods this area, attracting many bird species who nest and raise their young. With the valley receiving less than nine inches of precipitation annually, the fields are dry by July.

Feedback is welcomed. Many thanks.

These beautiful images certainly do convey a sense of place, Linda, and a very inviting place as well.

An interesting tour of an area I have never visited, Linda. You manage to find beauty where many would miss it. 👍👍

Richard, Donna and John - thanks so much for taking time to view and comment. The main drawback of this area is it's inconveniently far from human comfort stations

Linda,

That is a terrific sense-of-place series...one of the best we’ve had in the several years of the theme’s life.

I’m thinkin’ that you and R.G. are maybe neck-and-neck in the running!

This is a successful set on so many levels. I have come to trust your compositions as deliberate in their intent to show me some specific aspect of place and you usually succed as do your technical and processing choices. These all beautifully referance the western state's rain shadow territory and the beauty of seasonal wetlands. For me a sense of place has a strong temporal element that can be refelected in seasonal changes to the land which your have shown us. I think is is very difficult to establish much of a sense of place with a single image. This is country I love, thanks for the access!

Conveys the place well. Great photos all, but the approach shot with the soft swells entrances me.

Very nice series, Linda. Excellent photographic examples that require minimum explanation to tell the story.

Thank you all so much for your terrific comments. I'm very pleased the series comes across successfully. Phil, thank you for the mention of rain shadow territory. It took awhile to get over the shock of moving from lush green Maine to tree-less, brown/gray hillsides 10 months of the year!

Ideally, the series should probably include fall and winter, although there's little impact on the purpose of the refuge during that time. Plus, driving my sub-compact Toyota on an icy road off the beaten path is not on my 2019 to-do list, though I confess to such antics in the past

All are so nice that it's hard to pick a favorite, but I think I like the last one going from a colorful, sharp focus in the foreground to a muted, misty look in the distance is lovely.

Gorgeous series! I'm a sucker for the daisies along the fenceline in August . . . and is that fog i see? Very nice!! Honestly, i'd love to try that one in a moody B&W . . .

Linda- what interesting texture and light. I suspect one could spend hours watching shadows stretch hide among the hill's sulci and gyri. Yes, a definite sense of place... and particularly like August and July.
