A member here asked for the ID of some birds the other day and i went for one of them and was correct.

Just an hour ago i was browsing You Tube and happened on ID searching by pictures.

Yes i just tried it a few times and was amazed at how accurate is was.

The APP for your phone is called Google Lens. It seem pretty good and thought everyone here, (that don't use it right now), might like it.

It does alot more also.

Amazon has something similar. It's an image tagging app/service which uses image like ours or whom ever creates and uses their account to tag things, places or items in images. Sort of like Geotagging. So as long as those using the app are legit and tag subject matter correctly, it can be a useful tool. In one instance, I've seen bar codes posted in locations used at geotags. You take a picture of the barcode (with your smart device) from that location and it will show you information about who was there or what happen there etc.

This seems to pick up where Google Glass left off.

I use that and Merlin, from the Cornell School of Ornithology for bird ID. Also, there is a group on Facebook called What's this bird? and you can submit a photo, video, or just a sound byte, and where and when you witnessed it - and you will get an accurate answer almost immediately.

It's not a separate app, it's baked into Android.

You can search for a matching image using your standard web browser and Google. Image search has been around a while. Below is a link to some info, it's an older link but still relevant.

You can ask the software program of your choice, get the right ID about 90% of the time or post it on UHH and get a 100% correct answer. We have some really good birders here.
