Aloha folks, the back button option has stopped working. It just ignores me. I have tried resetting the back button focus but no help. Also cleaned the contacts. Any suggestions?
God bless Ed

"He" should not feel dumb. "He" should be very proud to join a large group of similarly minded people. Or is that mindless people. Darn, I can't remember what I was going to say.

First time I setup BBF, I later forgot about it. Then I wondered what was wrong with my camera. Why won't it focus (using shutter button)? Fortunately before I returned it to Nikon, I submitted a post here and the first reply asked "did you set up BBF and forget?" DOH!! I was very glad I did not send it back to Nikon.

We have all committed errors which one could say was DUMB! I was shooting a semi pro football game and my (7DMKII) camera went dead. First thing I did was switch the batteries out, that didn't work. After a few minutes i found that the Battery Grip was loose, boy was I embarrassed. Glad i was the only one who knew what was going on, can you say stupid is as stupid does? Happy New Year to all the smart people and the others like myself.

In the future when you ask for assistance it would be extremely useful if you provided information on the make and model of the camera and lens that's having the problem. It would be difficult, if not impossible to help you with your original question without at least that basic information.

Yes that is always helpful. But in this case it was not needed as the problem was generic and it has been solved.

This is probably a 'dumb' question!!! If I want to take a shot using a remote control shutter button will the BBF still operate?

That's not necessarily the case. Depending on the camera he may have inadvertently changed a setting controlling the back button. Without knowing which camera it is, it would certainly be hard to assist him.

I can specifically say with great confidence that focusing remotely via a TW-283 wireless remote does not work with a Nikon D5600 set for BBF. You have to focus using the assigned camera button. I ran into the problem the day before yesterday and I thought at first that the wireless remote was bad. However, I suspect that a Canon set to Auto will focus with a wireless remote as it disables BBF in Auto.

Of course back button focus will still operate, but you will still have to press the back button to focus. So if you are more than an arm's length from your camera, probably the best thing would be to focus ahead of time. This is also true for shutter button focus.
