Cool shots. Some people are totally unaware of anyone besides themselves.

I was walking along a well traveled trail next to a partially frozen creek and spotted a bobcat crossing the trail into the brush next to the stream. In 50 years of living here, this is the first bobcat I have ever seen during the day. I've seen them at nite on rare occasions but this is the first one that was photographical. Though they appear to be losing their fear of man they are still pretty rare around here.

I quietly followed along the trail for about 10 minutes but it was hard to get a decent shot becuz the bobcat blends into the brush so well. It was moving along the creek bed towards an opening in the brush and I moved to that spot. A man came by and saw me kneeling with my camera and he pulled out his phone and began shoot some pix. I knelt on the edge of the trail and was waiting for the bobcat to reach the break in the brush.

Just as the cat was no longer hidden by the brush I heard the guy whisper to someone to please stop for a minute so this guy can get a picture. I heard a loud female snarl, which I can't repeat here, and some woman moved directly between me and the bobcat just as I shot the picture. I thought I had the pic so I did not admonish her elitist, inconsiderate, rudeness, in fact I never even saw her as I kept shooting. As you can see from the pic I am posting, it probably would have been a great shot after cropping. Look behind the front of her arm, cat is partially visible there.

I was eventually able to get some better shots and I am including a few, so, all in all, I was happy to get the shots I did and I know about where she is living now.

Outstanding shots! Too bad about the ignorant lady.....perhaps she was “moved”!

We have a guy that comes around occasionally during the afternoon in Santa Fe to get water from the birdbath, but he’s very stealthy and very quick...usually our only warning is the crows, ravens, or blue jays tattling on him!

Tweety:"I taut I taw a puddy cat. I did, I did taw a puddy tat!" Sorry, couldn't resist.

Great shot. I've had more great shots ruined because of people not having respect, not knowing where they were in relationship to a photo or in the case of weddings - stepping in front of the "official" photographer. I've done two weddings for family and one for a friend. The good news is that today's cell phones take great picture - the bad news is that many with the cell phones think they are an expert photographer and step in front of somebody that also is trying to take a photo. I had one incident recently at home where my wife wanted a photo of the great-grandchildren for her mother. I had it set up and at least three family members stepped in front of me and screwed up the photo. As we all know taking photos of kids is not the easiest, by the time I reset, the kids had lost attention and moved on. It's like trying to herd cats. PS They all know I try and share as best I can the family photos. I bit my tongue and will wait for another opportunity. I did get a decent shot the day after Christmas.

Again - wonderful and rare opportunity to shoot the bobcat. Great job.

Nice pic. Have seen a few but never able to get a picture. People are getting less and less considerate. I was photographing a girls wrestling match and a wrestler walked over and sat down right in front of me next to her coach and started videoing with her iPhone. I tried to get her attention to ask her to move to no avail. Finally I said “hey coach” he looked and I asked him to ask her to move. She did reluctantly. I had been at this spot before the match started, which was out of the way of everyone and strategically placed myself to get pics from that spot of both wrestling mats. They learn young from adults who are thinking only of themselves.

I wouldn't have been nice at all in that circumstance. When I was a photojournalist i occasionally pushed rude people out of my way to get a crucial shot. You were lucky to get the great shots you did. I have seen very few bobcats in the wild and never got a shot of any of them.

What a truly lucky find and great shots. I would have been too excited to hold the camera still.
I would have been tempted to hit that arm----you know, an uncontrollable reflex.

DK, go to <trailcamprop.com> and get a trail camera. I have a Browning Strike Force Pro XD for under $200. Now I get my first bobcats, fox, coyotes, birds, and cougar. When you know when and where it makes it a lot easier.

I also have a Moultrie 9991 that I bought in 2016. I don't like it as much as the Browning.

Go to my page on trail cameras - 2016 - Moultrie 999i trail camera - and you'll see other trail camera photos. These are to help find animals to take with my Canon and Lumix cameras.

I have heard there is a mom bobcat at the golf course where I often play. I haven't had the chance to see her yet. They are very elusive animals. Congrats on the captures. Too bad about the woman getting in the way. It looks like it would have been a keeper.
