The Tamron G2 is a nice lenses, I have one. But why an adapter? They make it in Sony mount.

Opps, just checked, it is made in the E mount. and the Sony a7 iii is in E mount and FF. The A mount is the a7ii APS-C model.

Well look here, this guy tested that combo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA9nOc8javg

The Tamron G2 is not made in ANY Sony mount. To use it on any Sony E mount camera you would have to use an adaptor and buy a Canon mount lens.

All the Sony A7 and A9 cameras are Sony E mount so the only way to get one would be to but a Canon mount lens and use the necessary EF-E adapter.

Thanks for the correction, on their site Tamron lists Sony as one of the mounts. Would this be a case of they intend(ed) to but haven't gotten around to it yet? I seem to remember this also happened with the G1 version. Canon and Nikon mounts came out and everyone else had to wait.

And I made a typo (fancy word for mistake), my first mention of "E mount" should have been "A mount"

And B&H lists both the G! and G2 in Sony A mount as being in stock?????

At present they only make one E mount lens, its their SP 28-75mm Di III. If it proves popular they will make others.

I believe they also offer an 18-200 mm for Sony E mount cameras, but for the APSC sensor models.
