Folks, thanks for checking out the video. Yes, he makes a lot of sense. Steve I really appreciate your assessment. Thanks.

I do understand that the emphasis on gear is myopic but at the same time I find it somewhat ironic when you look behind him in his studio and see Karl's equipment let alone his Hassy in the foreground. Before you are all over me I do understand he's a professional and has requirements needed to run a studio of his magnitude. Just a visual observation.

Yup...sure was a rant. Could have said the same thing in less than a minute. Can't believe I watched the whole thing! LOL

Interesting.

I consider myself a rank amateur at best, and I often think some of the same things myself when reading some of the posts in the main info section.
I have only entry-level cameras, and they do the job for me. I used to think I had them only because of budget restrictions, but I have learned that they are all I need to do what I do.

I have always based my life on delusional competence and I am pretty satisfied as to how things have gone.

👍 My wife is a techie and when it comes to computers she likes to keep up with the technology. So when my 60D took a drink in the river and decided to replace it with a 80D the first thing she asked was is it the latest and greatest. I told her I could have gone with the 5DIV but couldn't justify the expense and the 80D was still better than my skill level but I could use it for many years to come. I think this is true with a lot of things. For example I have some welding equipment, welder, gear, and tools, total cost around $800 and it does everything I need. My son who is a welder by trade and contracts out a few welding trucks for on-sight work has equipment costing 15-20+ thousands of dollars for each truck. This shows the difference between doing something for fun and doing it for a living. But I have to admit there are times when I do wish i had the 5DIV. Bottom line its what ever each person feels good about.

A good rant. His main points, though, are often repeated here at UHH as replies to the many posts that ask 'what is the best camera?', or 'what is the best lens?'.
That is a good sign that we are generally getting good advice here.
