Nikon or Canon (loyalty Prog.) special pricing on trade ins.

I have recently read that canon will give a credit towards a new or refurbished camera if you trade in one of their products.
Two questions, 1. Does Nikon have a similar plan? 2. Has any one used the canon plan? Any comments would be helpful.

Canon does not have a trade-in program, per se.

However, Canon does have a so-called "loyalty program."
Canon may, at their sole discretion, offer a very reasonably-priced replacement / exchange for one of their "higher end" products that fails out of the warranty period.
It largely depends on their level of refurbished product inventory and what product you own that failed.
Again, this is at their sole discretion and is NOT A POLICY.

i attended the digital image show at the NEC this spring and on the canon stand i was looking at the canon pro 1 photo printer the man from canon asked me if i was interested in purchasing the printer i declined and said i had bought a pro 9500 mk 2 about 10 months previous to then and he said that they would give me a top trade in price no thanks
that was a printer but it might be worth asking about a camera

I think you would be better off selling on ebay. I regularly sell cameras for more than what I paid for them on ebay. I guess people get involved in a bidding war and can't control themselves. My overall ebay buying/selling is in the positive.

Yes Canon does have a Loyalty/Trade-In program.
I just recently used it.
If you have a Canon camera that is out of warranty and is in need of repair or is dead they will take it as trade in on purchase of a refurbished camera.
I had a Canon Powershot IS I5 that had focusing problems and traded in in on a refurbished Canon T2i Body. I was given $100 for it.
All I had to do was call Canon customer service and ask about their Customer Loyalty Program and Trade-In program.
They will tell you what's available and what your broken camera is worth.

I have not purchased through the Loyalty Program yet, but I have done the legwork. Basically, if they accept your old canon as a trade in, you will get about 20% off of the REFURBISHED price of a refurbished camera or other canon product. Yes, even lenses. They will even send you the product BEFORE you ship your trade-in back to them. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

That's pretty much how it works, but it is purely discretionary on Canon's part.
It is a good deal by any measure and a great customer service; something that helps makes Canon so successful.
