Fujifilm firmware download problem.

I have a Fuji X-T20. Great camera, however, there are firmware updates available for the camera and lenses. When I download to my MacBook Pro (downloads take several minutes) and try to open the downloads all I get is an empty “box”. Nothing there. I have a camera formatted SD card in the computer.

Any suggestions?

Try downloading to your hard drive first.

I know with Nikon I download to the hard drive. Three files are contained in the download, but only one gets copied to the SD card.

Make sure you’ve deleted all prior firmware downloads/attempts (successful or not) from your computer. That stymied me also.

If that doesn’t work call Fuji. They are helpful.

Just looked at the download instructions...here is a link to them, just in case...

http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/x/xt20/index.html

They also offer a page with some additional detail:

A couple of things stand out here.

1. It's a little bit ambiguous, but it appears to me that Fuji wants you to download to your computer, then copy the file to the memory card that you have formatted in the camera.

2. Make sure that there are no older firmware download files in the destination directory to make sure that the new one doesn't get renamed by your operating system to avoid duplication. (I know that Windows will add a (1), (2), etc. suffix to avoid duplicate files. Not sure what Mac does.) That new name probably would not be recognized by the camera.

3. Note that there are a couple of different instructions given here, depending on which Mac operating system you have. Not sure how important this is, but worth checking.

You may want to go to the Fuji FB site as all information is related to 5he Fuji camera systems.

The onetime I had a problem with updates with Fuji, I down loaded the update twice. The name changes with the second download. Get rid of all Fuji update downloads. Download the update to a computer then move it to a freshly formatted memory card. Fuji will walk you through the process if you need it. Call them.

Very important!! I ran into this as well. If you download the updates more than once the file will add a number to the end of the file each new time you download so you need to remove that number before you transfer the file to the memory card. Otherwise you will not be successful.

Meticulously follow the instructions on the Fuji site or watch a U-Tube presentation to be sure you get it right. It is not difficult not time consuming but it can be a little harrowing if things don't go right.
