When attaching a VR lens (i.e. 70-200 F4 Nikon) to a Z6 should I shut off VR on the lens?
Since the camera has VR do I have to shut the lens version off or it that automatic by the camera?
I would think that if you have your camera off...you should be ok....when in doubt, turn the VR off. That's my two cents worth. ë¿ë
As a technician I have always recommended turning off the camera while attaching anything yo it. Lenses, remote triggers, flash units etc... There is always a chance of a static discharge or powersurging either electronic component. Also when attaching something new you should restart or power up to reset the devices to a new power on status.
I understand the question here to be whether to use both the in-camera VR and the lens VR at the same time. The real answer here may be in your adaptor's manual somewhere, but I am guessing that your results will be best if you use one or the other of the two VR systems available to you. Otherwise you are almost certain to get over correction which will give about the same result as no VR at all, in addition to draining your battery faster than necessary.
I'd use just the camera VR, which should be more capable than the lens VR.

Look for this in the user manual to get the exact wording (and it's only about a paragraph or two), but yes it's "automatic." Supposedly, the camera VR cooperates with the lens VR to give you really good 3-axis VR with F mount lenses. Z mount lenses so far don't have VR and depend on the camera to provide 5-axis VR. I guess if you wanted to turn the VR off, you'd have to do that both on the lens and in the camera.
I'm with Rhett on this one.

Put VR in the camera to On. Then use the BR control on the slider to On for on and to Off to turn it off. The lens will turn the BR on camera to off. On if hand holding and Off if in tripod.
No power in the lens; camera off- no power in the camera. Should be fine.
On my Canon, I just power off the camera to change lenses.
Edit: Sorry, thought you meant when changing the lens.
The stabilization in the camera will augment the lens VR and the combo will give you better stabilization than VR does on a non stabilized camera.

I think you are only the second person to get it right, or even understand the question!
Of course, I could be wrong.

I'm not sure if the question is on attaching the lens or on using the combo.
Thanks all the question was about using the combo. The camera would be off during the insertion of the lens.
Shut your camera off before changing lens, battery, memory.
I can remember reading somewhere that if the lens and camera both have VR, the lens should be switched off. With the arrival of the Olympus OMD EM2, that advice went out the window so, in short, I don’t know. If I’m shooting with my Oly and I use a LUMIX lens, I tend to switch the lens off. My other system is Sony Alpha, which has IBIS, or steady shot as the Alpha calls it.
