Sad tale of unrequited love. Lady Loreley and countless drowned sailors on the Rhine. Who knew the Germans were such romantics?
Wiki: "association with Lorelei rock. …and is associated with the legend of a beautiful maiden who threw herself into the Rhine in despair over a faithless lover and was transformed into a siren who lured fishermen to destruction."

My late wife and I have driven the stretch of the river between Mainz and Koblenz probably more than a dozen times and yet I haven't taken a single photo of the statue. I've got a few thousand other shots along there but none of the statue. We even camped a few times across from the rock.
Thanks for posting the link. It brought back many wonderful memories of our trips.

Yep! German romanticism at work. But why make a villain out of a beautiful lady as a vengeful, jilted lover? Where's the women's lib and the #Metoo movement when you need them?
Thanks for watching.
Happy New Year!
I listened to Ella's version, too. I wanted to keep it no longer than 3 minutes. Plus, like you said, Ella's is a bit less than romantic.
Thanks for watching.
Happy New Year!

Thanks for the info about Loreley, both as a rock and a beautiful maiden turned siren.
Thanks for watching.
Happy New Year!

You're welcome, DrWilk. For me, plain and simple, luck. We also had a tour guide that would tell us via PA of landmark of interest ahead. I was fortunate enough to get a decent photo of the Lady Loreley's statue with my Panasonic Lumix Z50 point and shoot from about 150 yards away (guesstimate). I took a few photos but the other ones showed a long cargo train in the background passing by. As you know, there are some 60 castles of different shapes and sizes along the Rhine, sometimes "on top of each other." Couldn't keep up with them.
Glad the short slideshow program brought many wonderful memories of the trips of the Rhine you and your late wife took.
Thanks for watching.
