I have been a Nikon user for many years. Recently I got a Sony a6000. It is great. I know that they have the a6300 and the a6500, and are going to release the a7000.
I love its small size and the viewfinder. The only problem is that Sony does not have a lot of lenses available. Nikon has many lenses, on eBay as well as the major players.
You should consider the sony, but a real consideration is lenses. If your daughter has Nikon lenses that you can borrow, that may be the important consideration.

Don't think that this is true. Sony is selling more cameras now than Nikon or Canon. Why do you think that Nikon and Canon are trying to get into the mirrorless market? Sony is killing them.
