Paul, if you lived in the desert where these clouds are not an everyday event, I think you'd probably want to feature them as well. Thanks for stopping by.

Mike, thanks for the visit and comment. These types of scenes occur a couple of times during the year. We have months where there is nothing but clear skies. Scenes like these occur quite often in July and August. Nothing like going out in late afternoon heat to photograph. In this particular case, the rewards far outweigh price of working in 100+ degree heat.

Great use of low horizon to emphasize beautiful light in clouds!

Would love to see a tutorial on how you achieve such dramatic and contrast-balanced b&w images. Have you one?

Nice Bob! and it has a bit of the South West in it for pixel peepers. Localized downpours, desert and saguaros

Wham, as I mentioned earlier, clouds like these don't occur year round. So, when they do, I'm more than happy to do what I can to photograph these scenes. Thanks for stopping in and commenting.

Tommy, thanks for the visit. A tutorial is somewhat in the works. Stay tuned. The big trick is knowing one's camera's capabilities and spot metering.

Hi Bob,

Another spectacular desert image, and with an unusual focal point.

The clouds are certainly the entrée, but the appetizer is the placement of the high values on the hills - looks on my monitor like you're placing them about on Zone VIII? That almost "sparkly" texture contrasts beautifully with the clouds, especially downloaded and enlarged. Great pre-visualization, as usual.

Andy, thanks very much for stopping by and commenting. Though there was rain somewhere in this scene, the location from which I was photographing had seen any yet. So, the brighter desert dirt and rock were used to "echo" the brighter portions of the clouds.
