or the $500 Nikon steel-toed boots to prevent broken toes when dropping the camera from shock when you poke your eye...

Not a big deal. My ophthalmologist says my right eye will be back to normal in 6 months.

Recommended clipping my nails shorter, though.

Sounds like most Nikon users may be morons.

For every single idiotic warning label, you can bet there’s an actual idiot who did it.

I once bought a lawn mower that had a label showing two guys trimming a hedge by hand holding it. Of course it had the big red bar through it, so I knew not to try it.

But I’ll bet somebody did!

Not sure how many folks can afford a ~$3,500 camera and not know not to poke their own eyes, but I guess they exist.

Not-so-bright people can inherit big chunks of money too. Or win the lottery.

It only takes one idiot and one good attorney.

My new Nikon manual has same warning. Remember EVERY warning in a manual or listed on an item is because at some point SOMEONE did it and probably tried to sue the company. I remember seeing a glove compartment lid in one of my cars that had a sticker that said "Do Not Chew On Door, May Contain Hazardous Plastic". We all remember the lady who sued McDonald's when she spilled hot coffee in her lap because the cup did not say it was hot... duh! Today all cups have "Beware Hot Coffee" on them.

I swear if we keep dumbing down Americans we are going to have to hold a telethon for our society!!!

Seems to be standard information in Nikon manuals.

My new Nikon manual has same warning. Remember EVE... (show quote)

To be fair to the coffee lady, McD’s served their coffee way over scalding temps, in an effort to maximize profits, in flimsy, poorly insulated cups, and had had several serious burn injuries, which they settled.

“Stella” sued only for the cost of treating her (third degree burn) injuries, IIRC less than $30k. The judge and jury thought rather poorly of McD’s record of paying off small sums when they knew how dangerous their practice was. They had actually done cost/benefit analysis, which were produced in court. So they awarded enormous punitive damages. As best I recall, Stella never saw the money.

So yes, there are stupid awards, but there are also plenty of irresponsible corporations.

Just trying to be fair.

Never would have guessed! This was in the Nikon Z7 Users guide. And I thought I knew a little about photography. Guess not. Glad I got this, now I know. Can’t wait to get to the QTip and ear section.

Sometimes people have to be TOLD to use common sense.

This is also why Ralphy's Mom said he couldn't have a BB gun, "You'll shoot your eye out!"

Nikon is just covering their behind. There will always be at least one moron and 2 idiots out there that will actually do exactly what Nikon warns about. And you can bet your D5 or Z7 that they will try to sue!

You are no doubt correct - morons breed faster than intelligent people and in this litigious society they are bound to sue over things that people with any intelligence would deem beyond belief. I remember a case I learned about in school decades ago - did a quick search and here is a screenshot of a description...

morons be morons in any year
morons be morons in any year...

And the U.S. has about 280 lawyers per 100K population while Japan has about 11.
