Starting to become familiar with a new camera one of the testing shots was made under less than ideal conditions that I have tried in the past without a printable image. Thinking about framing this one, and the first thing I do in such cases is put a mat on the image in the computer. In addition to any comments on the image, I would appreciate someone telling me what color the mat is - when I used the color-picker on the image I thought I had brown. Then, when I looked at it this morning it was green. Preparing it for e-mail it was red. My color vision seems to have a sense of humor on this issue.

Now it's back to brown.
Beautiful photograph and beautifully matted. The mat picks up the dark tones of the duck. On my monitor the mat is black.

Thank you for the comments, MichaelEBM.
Very nice shot with a brown mat on my laptop.

Thank you, Mike. Both comments appreciated.
Very nicely done, Neil. What new camera did you purchase (or Santa dropped off)? The mat is brown, with a hint of olive green.

Thank you, Linda. Got a Sony RX10M4. The Missus went to Hawaii earlier, I get a camera. We decided to spend the kid's inheritance. She is not a photographer, but came back with shots that anyone could be proud of - with her iPhone 6. I'm putting together a 90-page album of 8 x 10s for her.

neilds37 Great photo well taken ... composition great. My tongue in cheek comments follow:
Oh! is there a photo? ... All I saw at first glance was a huge, black fence around a photo which I finally saw. Using my hands to block out that monstrosity of a frame i saw an excellent photo well "framed" with the aquatic weed.
Why do people use mats and frames? Vignetting tapers off the photo from the real world quietly and we appreciate the in-look at the photo world.
For wall mount framing at home I use a thin hard board [laminated flooring is excellent] and use a mirror image wrap [contained with in the On-1 resize program] or vignetting the photo then stands away from the wall using three 3/4" blocks. The days of ostentatious carved gold leaf gilded frames was over in the early 1900s. Long live simplicity.
PS: the Sony RX series is excellent

dpullum, I appreciate your comments. I have three canvas museum-wrapped photos on the wall, and while they are nice I prefer mats which compliment the photo and a thin frame closely color-matched to the mat for something to attach the hanging hardware. However, I see nothing wrong with your method for wall mounts either. Variety tuned to the individual photo. In the case of this photo, I'm leaning toward more of a green shade.
On my monitor, the mat is brown with a hint of olive. I don't know the name of that specific colour, but it's a Pantone colour, I'm sure.

Thank you, APL. I think I'll try it with more green.
