I found this guy on my porch screen. He was totally unintimidated and let me get less than a foot from his "face" with my macro lens.

He looks absolutely prehistoric to me and very beautiful.

Great photo of a Lubber. These large Grasshoppers have no known natural enemy other than the Shriek (a bird that will kill but not usually eat them). They secret a toxin that will make predators ill. Their bright markings are a warning sign to 'stay away'.

Born and raised in Florida I used to catch these guys as a kid. They're fairly large...about the size of a hummingbird. They have very strong back legs. Great shot.

Brilliant, I think you got the brother of one I got a few weeks ago. You can pick them up and they will walk on you. They seem to have no fear whatsoever. Here's a pic of your 'hoppers brother!

he's pretty...since I have my macro I see how pretty some insects really are...the wasp I photographed is very pretty..
