C'mon, I know you have one (or more!). You know, that gadget you reach for from the toolbox that you really like because (why?), instead of another one that could do the job better.

I use mostly Photoshop CS5, and mine are (in order of over-reliance):

- Shadow/Highlight. This can do some mighty ugly dynamic compression! (I think it's one of the most overused by others besides me as well.) ;^|
- CMYK curves (mostly because of a print background). Yes, this is good stuff, and works wonders on skin tones, etc., but sometimes I forget it can't fix EVERYTHING!
- Unsharp Mask. I always have to try and set it to less than my eyes tell me I should.
- Brightness/Contrast. How destructive can you get?
- Magic Wand. Instead of the doggone pen tool I SHOULD be grabbing to clip out a background.

Okay? What are yours? Fess up! :)

They are third party programs called plugins not to be confused with third party actions. Since I am a beginner with photoshop I use these small add ons to help with my (defishionies.) That does not look like it is spelled right :hunf:

A "deficiency" is generally a lack of something. ;)

I use Firefox Browser. It has a Spellchecker as you type. I used to be pretty good at spelling, as I get older..... it gets harder!

I have a tendency to over use the unsharpen mask in photoshop.

I am re-sampling my old photos from years ago and I find I'm using the Levels/Shadow/Highlights tool in Photoshop Elements 10 the most. And, of course, saturation/hue.

I'm trying to make Photo Books of all my old photos that are stored on CD/DVD.

Defishison? I think is the correct way, its more so a statement. A friend of mine from South America used to say that a lot when we would go coho salmon fishing in Lake Michigan...

I guess I do use a few Photoshop plugins fairly regularly. Hard to keep track of them all, tho...
I used to work in Bristol Bay and da Bering Sea - now doze are da fishin' seas!

ohallboyz - I always forget about gradient maps, and I've never played with High-pass sharpening - gonna have to try that. Thank you!

RedIris - Ah, yes, I almost put Saturation/Hue on my list, too. Who can resist pumping that saturation on a flat looking pic? Another one that's easy to overdo...

sinatraman - A number of old photoshop pros have schooled me pretty well to "stay away from Levels!" but I still have to resist the urge sometimes - it's just too easy!

I tend to use brightness/contrast ( +18% contrast ) and unsharp mask - on every shot
