I have the sigma 10 20 and it is not bad, It is sharp but loses it in corners, also quite a bit of distortion so be so leave room to crop when doing lens corrections. also it is limited in use and will not fit all landscapes as sometimes it is too wide and everything in pic is too small.
I also have a D7000 and the Tamron 10-24 does an excellant job.
I bought the Tamron 10-24 for a trip to Italy last month. My camera store recommended it. I love it. It was great for landscapes. I don't see noise, but I used it outdoors at 100-400 ISO mostly.
I absolutely love the sigma 10 20

It looks like you took a world tour. :D
Tokina 11-16 is one ofmy favorite for my 300s. It's sharp, built like a tank and f2.8... did I mention fairly cheap @ $600 ? You could do much worse.

I have the Sigma 10-20 and love it. After the answer from PhotoArtsLA to my question, this is the lens I will use Saturday night/Sunday morning to shoot the Perseids Meteor Shower. It is a great lens, you will not be disappointed.
I recently purchased a Tokina f/4 12-24mm lens used on Amazon....really sharp pictures even with my old D80...reading reviews, it's rated even with Nikor ...and less money.

If you bought it on 8/6, you bought it from me. :D
Advice I have been given is to do what you are doing here, get the opinion of others. Magazine reviews are good too. My recommendation is to then take a memory card to your camera store(s) and take some pictures with each of the lens you are interested in, to get the 'feel of them'. Then take them home and without any sales pressure, compare the pictures. Then pick the one that 'feels right' and gives you the best picture at the price you want to pay.
My son took me out to do some 'sunset pictures' and while we were waiting for the Sun to go down a bit, I took photo of some people fishing with my 18-105mm lens. My son then took this lens off and put his 20-24 lens on for me to take the same picture. Here are the two pictures with the EXIF information.
My son has a D300s - but that is too heavy for me ( I am 76 ) so I use the lighter D5100.
You can't go wrong with the Tokina 11-16mm I use it with my D7000.
I bought the Tamron 10-24mm about 6 months ago. I've used it travelling from San Diego to Palm Springs. It was great for landscape shots in the hills and the desert. I just got back from Lake Tahoe, where it was just the right lens for the mountains. It is only adequate as a walking-around lens. I love it, and would buy it again. I paid $450, and got a $50 rebate.

i'm looking to buy a wide angle lens without breaking the bank. been looking at the tamron 10-24, and the sigma 10-20...the sigma is a couple hundred bucks more... wondering if anybody has used these and could give me some feedback on them... i have a d7000 and will be using this lens mainly for landscapes... thanks in advance for your input....
I have a Tokina 12-24mm f4.0 that I purchased in December 2011. I am thinking of selling the lens because I just purchased the Nikon 18-300 mm and feel I may not have a need for the Tokina. I have been using it on a d7000 with great results.

I have a Nikkor 10-24mm zoom lens that I will NEVER part with. I missed too many great shots becuse I couldn't get the entire subject in my frame without backing way off and changing the perspective. Not so with this baby. Best lens in my collection. I too, love landscapes....
The Flatiron mountains, approaching Boulder from the south.

Correction. I sold that lens on ebay, replacing it with the 11-16mm Tokina.
