I just want to make sure that I understand this. For whatever reason, probably due to my thick skull, the diagram of the top panel, and explanations of each readout, in Bush's book on the D7200 leaves me with wanting to confirm my understanding of what he is saying. When not depressing the shutter release button this display shows the number of exposures remaining. I assume this reading is for the card in slot 1, in which case I have chosen slot #1 for RAW & slot #2 for jpeg. Now when depressing the shutter release button half way down to focus r10 is then displayed. Does this represent the number of minutes of recording remaining or frames per second for continuous/burst shooting or something else? Thanks.

foxfirerodandgun Bush's Nikon Manuals are not to be trusted as authoritative... Fact! I purchased his D3x / D3s manual hoping it would be of merit in mastering the D3x... This manual was a cut & paste of previous manuals... and contained errors... while many of the illustrations were indeed helpful the fact that it had not been properly proof read is very sad indeed...

As for the D7200? I shoot it commercially so I've been through Nikon's Manual at great lengths...

Only partly foxfirerodandgun... The D7200 buffers depends on the bit depth you've set the camera to use... i.e. 12bit or 14bit and yes this makes a huge difference...

On page 380 & 381 you'll find that buffer capacity is also greatly influence on your JPEG compression setting... Optimal Quality will drop the buffer capacity considerably....

btw, frame rate can be found on page 351 and can be important for shooting continuous bursts...
Also same with the Custom Setting a3 Focus Tracking with Lock-On for "C" Continuous Shooting frame advance...
For max throughput set this to "Off"

Is Nikon's manual for the D7200 excellent? Well I haven't found errors however the Index is SERIOUSLY wanting.... Doesn't even have "Buffer" or "Frame Rate" except for video on page 273...

Best advice? Cross reference and NEVER rely on a single source as being authoritative... same as with medical issues, always get a second opinion...

Thank you Thomas! Yes you explanations are very helpful. I do have the jpeg quality set to "fine". And I do have Custom Setting a3 Focus Tracking with Lock-On for "C" Continuous Shooting frame advance. Not sure what the bit depth is set to, but I'll check it out tomorrow. I normally use more than one source for gathering information, however, I felt that the supplied user manual would have me jumping from one section to another to much. Lesson learned.

I plan to shoot some nice, colorful, nandina berries; an old falling down farm building; and what I think is a '57 Chevy hidden down in the woods rusting away tomorrow morning using both A, S, & M modes. Thanks again.
