Happy Holidays or Merry Xmas (or whatever).
And greetings to those who celebrate festivals of older religions.
At this time of the year there's a lot of reminiscing that takes place.
My thoughts suddenly hit on photos that got away, either because I had run out of film, or didn't (or couldn’t) use a camera.
For me, two particular examples stand out.
1. I was on my home, and the plane was approaching London Heathrow, and I looked out my window and saw Buckingham Palace below me. I'd used up all my film and could only look. This was pre 9/11 and I've never seen it again. They use a different route now.
2. I was on my way to work and there was a full moon in the daytime sky. I could also see a plane up there. Just then, the plane started turning, and for a moment the plane coincided with the moon. Think of witches on broomsticks, or E.T. This was before dashcams, so I only have the memory to relish.
So, are there any really interesting scenes that you couldn't photograph for one reason or another?

Yes there are a few but what makes me wonder more often is why I didn't frame an image just a little bit differently to make it so much better.

I had a recent situation. The sky was full of "Pancake" clouds. Cumulus clouds that were bright white on top and with black bottoms. It was a formation that I haven't seen in decades. The problem was that I was in middle of traffic doing 70. And with roads being built without space to turn off and park, it makes several observations difficult to photograph. The traffic patterns are such that even on the alleged country roads, pulling off to take a shot is nigh impossible. (I reside in a decidedly high urban area.)
Often I miss shots because I enjoy engaging conversations with people around me. ("Hold that thought. I'll be right back after I get my shot." Doesn't work well in keeping the conversation going.

I have a somewhat similar story. We had gone to Ithaca, NY for my daughter's graduation from Cornell and on the way back to Baltimore stopped in NYC for a few days since my son had never been there. We had time to either go to the top of the World Trade Center or the Empire State Building. I had been to the top of the Empire State on multiple occasions, but I left it up to the family to decide. They chose the Empire State Building. That was three months before 9/11. The only pictures of WTC I have was from the window of a tour bus.
I briefly had 2 Concordes in my viewfinder the day they flew into Orlando, I didn't take the shot because I thought the contrast was too low, figured they might make another pass, fly in on another day, or come closer. Never saw them again.
I have about 1000 photos I took on a 5000 mi trip to the southwest then back through the Rockies. I had a Kodak EasyShare digital camera that let you decide what size photos to take. I chose the smaller size so i could fit more on the memory card. So I have all these pics that are too small to make good prints, and not enough time to go back and retake them with my present camera.
As I drive the roads I see images quite frequently that I would like to capture but due to safety reasons or, primarily, the lack of a safe parking area I have to pass up. My busy life doesn’t afford me the luxury of planning significant blocks of time dedicated to exploring for photo ops.

Always, but that's part of life.

One afternoon in Rome, walking to the Piazza Navona, i saw a young couple embarrassing and kissing backlit by the sun shining through the piazza. The (lovely) girl was wearing a long diaphanous white dress blowing in the wind. I didn’t have my camera with me, but the image is recorded indelibly in my mind, and can never be recreated and photographed by me. Sigh. Might have been the only really good image I’ve ever taken.
Yes there was a Sharp Shinned Hawk sitting on the fence in my back yard yesterday. I looked at him and he looked at me and I said wait just a moment while I get my camera. Well when I went back outside 20 seconds later he was gone. Usually I have at least one camera sitting on the kitchen table just in case but my cameras were still in my car - just got back from a shoot. He looked like a hungry one- he will be back.

Try Topaz A.I., Does a great job on resizing the photos.

I don't think he is talking about resizing. He is talking about the fact that he has very low resolution originals that can't be enlarged substantially without serious degradation of image quality.
Had a 18-200mm lens on my D7200. What looked like a bald eagle lands on street light about 150 feet away. Ran inside and got camera, no time to change lens. Got only 4 shots off and then he was gone. Can tell it was a bald eagle from the shots I got but not near enough lens.

Exactly! I could probably do a giant collage of 2x3 images
