Sunrise in the new home.

Mrs. Anvil and I have spent the last several weeks moving from the SF Bay Area to Colorado. We are still unpacking boxes, but the place is slowly shaping up.

The views just outside the house, are, to my eyes, beautiful. I do my best to capture that beauty. Sometimes, I succeed in spite of myself. For this shot, I was standing on the sidewalk, looking across the street (directly northwest). The jagged rocks that appear to be right behind the houses forms what is known as the Devil's Backbone. (I will hike this, soon, but the house needs to be put in order, first.) I liked how the two fir trees framed the scene, so I took this shot, rather than try to zoom in on the Backbone. The real story, to me, is how the sun was hitting the Backbone, a this early hour. Sunrise was 7:21, and this was taken shortly after. (The data says it was taken at 6:23, but I had forgotten to adjust the time zone on my cameras.)

I may decide to do some Photoshop editing, for this one, but what you see, here, is just some basic Lightroom editing.

Beautiful capture! Having moved from Virginia to Utah, I understand the wonder when you wake up and look out your window.

Thats a big move. Glad you are getting settled in. I grew up in Boulder and I think my roots are still there. Its still my special place. You will have your hands full exploring. I think Loveland was about 1/10th the current population back then. As I am sure you will, or have been down to Boulder, be sure to go up Flagstaff Mt. and up to NCAR, and just south is Eldorado Springs. Well worth the trip. Estes Park. Nederland. The Peak to peak hi way. There is so much there. Congratulations.

Thanks! Seeing such beauty, first thing in the morning, does not get old.

Thanks! I have some family, here. One sister and her husband, in Loveland, and one brother, and most of his family in Ft. Collins. (My last name is Collins. My brother thinks they named the place after him.) Another sister and her husband will be moving to Loveland, early next year. (We're getting the band back together!) We are really looking forward to investigating everything about this place.

That will be an inspiring scene to wake up to, and fascinating to compare how the view changes with seasons and position of the sun. Glad you're settling in, Jim.

It is a lovely sight, to be sure. There can be some surprises, as well. A couple of evenings ago, a bachelor group of elk showed up on the golf course. Apparently, they come here, quite often, during the winter, and often stay all night. I'd like to say the light was fading, but it had already faded by the time I took these. These are not up to my usual standard, so I won't even bother with "store original". I took these to document the occurrence, as it were. Since this happened, my camera has been mounted on a tripod, waiting. Nothing.

I have learned something. Elk will NOT rake bunkers!

Well, at least you're now ready - and you know the rules of their workers' union

Be careful when you ask if you can "play through..."
