I’ll keep my rural Iowa 4 seasons snow and all, I enjoy our visits to our son in San Diago but don’t like big cities. Two years ago we were there in feb., the last week we were there the weather news was all about the winterstorm coming in form the ocean. It was going to be in the 50s and rainy and windy, it was quite humorous to us. I also could not live with west coast politics,I’ll stay in a flyover state. Merry Christmas.

I used to tease my students "You native Californians think you are going to get terminal frostbite when the temperature gets below 80."
When I first moved to CA in the 50s it was a normal place with a mix of liberals and conservatives who worked together to make it a great place to live. Today, people keep electing liberal/progressive democrats and wonder why things keep getting worse - they never saw a spending program that is approved by the progressives they didn't like. Even if they don't know how to pay for it. And they wonder why the homeless and illegal population keeps going up - they give them free stuff and let them slide on breaking a lot of laws - they would have to be really stupid to not come here.

Wrong street but UPS, FedEx, USPS and some others have been coming to our house regularly this past month. Train (HO) stuff, fashion stuff, computer things, camera gear and hard to find cooking things (coarse grind corn meal to make the Marie Callender's corn bread mix have the "right" texture for a Southerner. Why do they grind it until it is almost flour?

Because "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the public" maybe ... forgot who said that .. H L Mencken ? Cheers!

Very nice photo. Isn't Candy Cane Lane near either Winnetka or Tampa and the 101?

Happy Holiday Season!

Here in Corona it is Pueblo Rd and the area around it one block north of the Main-Ontario intersection and west of Main

Yes, many years it is T-shirts, cut offs and sandals for the Rose Parade.

This was taken either Christmas day or New Years day in what is now known as Carson, CA.

Mom, Dad, Uncle Chuck, Aunt Margie and Cousin Phyllis. Mom hides my brother. I think I took it with my box camera.

Esp the earthquake part: http://geosurvey.ohiodnr.gov/earthquakes-ohioseis/seismic-risk-in-ohio Mid-continent/mid-plate quakes are generally not as common as plate edge quakes like we get in California but tend to bigger on average. The largest series of heavy quakes in recorded history in the 48 states area was from the New Madrid Fault in 1811-1812. Ohio was in the light damage zone and church bells rang in Boston.
And wildfires/forest fires are not a major factor in Ohio only because the forests were largely cleared for farmland.

We have plenty of forests now and abundant water supply.

Ohio used to be near totally covered with forest. And if a drought cycle hits what you have can get dry enough to burn.

Early afternoon on 12-21-2018. What So Cal looks like on the first day of Winter. To those of you up to your #$@& in snow, do not call Bekins. We have enough people already thank you.

I was born, raised and lived in California for 65 years. I was there when California was a nice place to live. But I am pleased to inform you I was one of those who called Bekins - to leave, not move there. Most of my California time was in Northern California but my last dozen years were in SoCal. The weather people on the San Diego TV stations like to say a lot of the time, "Everybody loves the weather in Southern California, EVERYBODY loves the weather in Southern California". What they failed to mention was that the insects, vermin and reptiles love the weather, also. I've heard it said more than once that any house over four years old will have termites. I can attest to that, had to have the termites in my house eradicated twice, one being a full tent job.

I heard on a Sacramento station a few days ago that the population of California is now at 39.8 million and continuing to rise even with the high prices, high taxes and clogged freeways. Good luck with asking people to not call Bekins but I'm afraid your plea will go unheeded so expect to see that 40 million any day.

The upper class lives where ever they want and their lawyer(s) and tax guy(s) protect their money.

The lower income classes get all kinds of "goodies" from the Progressives who are now in change of the state. This includes illegals who may soon even get free state paid healthcare if our new governor and his buddies get their way. They want single payer for everyone, including illegals and anyone else who shows up. So they are moving into California.

The middle class and to a great degree businesses pay all those bills through higher taxes, "fees" etc and many of them are moving out so there will be fewer people paying taxes. I have thought of moving out but have a few anchors keeping us here. And since I get most of my income from my pension as a retired 34 year teacher I don't really trust the CA gvt. to not find some way to cut my pension, tax the hell out of it before sending it to me somewhere else or some other scheme to try and pay for all those "vote buying" programs they come up with.
