I am playing with converting from color to b&w in both LR and Affinity programs....here is one that I kinda like. Nikon D5300 with Tamron 16-300 mm, 1/250 f16 at 16mm taken from on the back of my horse - so hand held. 1st pic is the original color edited in LR then took it over to the NIK Silver Efex Pro and converted to b&w, then I took it into the Affinity program and used the inpainting tool too remove the trees....love that tool!

Please comment on what you think...good/bad...what should I do different/what would you do different?

Great start. Make the whites whiter.

Darn fine first effort. The mono gets rid of the bluish cast in the color and your sky rendition is also improved in the mono. Or so’s my take.

I like the b&w without the trees.

I agree with Stan on the whites. Other than that it looks great to me.

Oops, I meant to type “makes” not “make” but sure still looks good. My compliments. I’ve found bw conversions a challenge especially when wanting to print. But fun and worth the effort. Keep it up.

Hi Cindy,
I personally think you are on the right track with the B/W image. There is a natural blue cast in snow pictures, but winter snow calls out for a black and white rendition. And when done right like your image, that, is a winner. The starkness of the snow and the black of the landscape is perfect.

Thank you so much Rich! I have a lot of opportunities where I live to take snow pictures and I want learn how to convert them to B&W correctly and make them look more like what my eye sees, so I really appreciate your comment...you made my morning!

I like the first one best; the blue tinge on the snow makes me feel the cold. I agree with "NMgal" taking the two trees out, however. The second one, done in B&W looses it's impact until you fixed the whites on the snow as "pixelstan" recommended. Then the B&W is almost as good as the color version.
