Perceived image sharpness in high pixel-count cameras.

I judge “sharpness” by the appearance of writing on railroad cars as I “zoom in”. The more pixels, the smaller I can read as I zoom in. Film allowed me to read only so small, and writing seems to smear now when I use 1/250 on moving cars, which I routinely used then. Now I use 1/750 just to be certain. I call this “sharpness”, but I’d be willing to use another term if it would be more understandable.
