My wife and I had travelled to a couple of lush, "tropical" islands
over the years, so we were really surprised by the stark contrasts
in the landscape scenes in Aruba, which is better described as a
"desert" island.
It's those "contrasts" I tried to capture, and share with you here.

Possibly a questionable "landscape" image, but a good representation of the windswept Divi-Divi trees

I just HAD to include one "seascape"...LOL

I've always been amazed by how quickly landscape can go from tropical to desert, depending on which side of the island or mountains.
A nice set and vividly different from "lush". I wonder what causes such a stark difference in how the ecology develops.
The windswept tree tells a great story. I confess I've never thought about Aruba one way or the other, but if asked, I would certainly have said it must be tropical jungle
Interesting series!
Good set.
I think of Aruba as a great place for sailboarding.

Thanks for the nice comment, R.G.
I suspect that in the case of Aruba, it sits about 863 miles north of the equator,
and is subject to constant, and I mean constant, 15-20 mile an hour winds.
While it is normally quite warm, the constant breeze helps keep you cool, but
the hot sun and constant breeze probably has more to do with the "desert" feel
than anything else.

Thanks for looking, Linda, and I'm glad you enjoyed.
Aruba is certainly anything but a tropical jungle...LOL. To be truthful,
that is kind of what we were expecting, but once we accepted the
reality of the island, we fell in love with it. We've only been back once,
but, Lord willing, we will be going back again.

There are constant winds, Richard, but I know the locals strongly
urge you to stay out of the water on the northeastern side of the
island because it's too dangerous to do much of anything in those waters.
