3 photos taken in my home town on the south coast of England, Hastings, East Sussex.
Hoping to make Ian 1066 homesick
The 1st one is Hastings pier prior to vandals burning it to the ground which i have added a paint effect too
The second is of Hastings beach converted to black and white with a hint of sepia
The 3rd are 2 seagulls on the beach, being a fishing port ( although slowly dying) there are plenty of these and plenty of noise as well

WELL, you suceeded in making me very very homesick. Hastings pier was a regular stop off for me and I saw many of the top groups in English Music including the Rolling Stones, Beatles, The Who, The animals Dusty Springfield to name a few. I got to talk to many of them as I worked for the local newspaper. Brings Back tons of great memories!
The beach was also a reminder of beaches that were not so wonderful, Sharp jagged stones that killed your feet. Thanks for being so considerate. We are hoping to visit in the late spring and tour the south from Devon to Canterbury and the to Cambridge and the Lake District. I cannot wait to play "Tour Guide" I also want to do a photo essay on Brass Door Knockers of Rye.

In my day, when things were not so refined, the gulls were reffered to as "Rock-A-Nor Shit hawks" My darkroom was on the very top of the Observer building, home to maybe a dozen breeding pairs of gulls. Are, Those were the days. The Observer building has laid empty for 30 years! Shame on the town council!

Don't worry spring will soon be here and you will be on your way back. The pier must have been a great place years ago a real hub of the town. Maybe it will get rebuilt and again become a place of interest.

I hope your'e correct but things move slow in Hastings. I went on a school trip to the Council meeting that decided Hastings needed a shopping Center. It was agreed on and the council set the wheels in motion. that was in June 1957 and I believe it was finished 5 or 6 years ago (maybe more but not much more!)

They were (at the same meeting) going to extend the harbour Arm out and make a marina) wonder what happened to that. Eastbourne and Brighton are very prosperous) they talked about it and did it! Hastings sadly got left behind BUT Hastings still has house and people (in old folks homes) who were there when William conqured Hastings in 1066!

Ha Ha Ha, Harbour arm and marina, you will love this, grand plans were drawn up which included one of the biggest squares in the country, grand hotels, all reaching out into the sea, only to find out at a very late stage that they didn't own the land they wanted to build on.
It could only happen in Hastings. Back on the shelf !
