Maybe the finest movie I have seen in decades!
I saw ROMA on Netflix last evening. The film is in black and white (The beauty and design could not be achieved in color), takes place in Mexico, and is subtitled from the Spanish.
The director is the director of Doomed starting Sandra Bullock in a tour de force acting role. There must be hundreds of frames which as stills could be hanging in art galleries and high end photo studios. The story focuses on a young maid serving a well to do family. At times it is heart rendering and then heart warming.
If you prefer things blowing up, only color in a movie, famous actors you might know or know of, and constant action, ROMA is not for you.
If you appreciate art/design in cinematography and a most compelling engaging story, this movie might blow you away.
Made by Alfonso Cuarón, one of my favorite directors. I loved his Y Tu Mamá También from 2001. Amazing that Roma, a foreign language film in B&W with no stars is getting buzz for a best picture nomination. Some of the B&W cinematography is just stunning.

Absolutely agree! A mind-blowingly beautiful film.
Added to my list. Thank you.
You had me at Sandra Bullock.

Sandra Bullock isn't in this movie. The director made another movie, Gravity, with her.

My moto has been
"Often in error
Never in doubt"
I put in Doomed instead of Gravity. I have no excuses but am not sorry for the mistake. Just sorry the fine Noah's Bourbon expired during my postings. If you like Bourbon, give Noah's a try, if you can find it.
