Has anyone moved from Lightroom to On 1 Photo Raw. Is On 1 any better than Lightroom or any regrets. I am looking to simplify my workflow hopefully speed up my work.

I did, not sure if I would call it a move though, more like an addition. I still use LRcc for cataloging. On1 is a browser/raw editing software, so you still need a means of cataloging. On1 has what LR has yet much more refined control and it (2019) has layers, filters, Presets, masking just as PS has. I'll do minimal basic adjustments in LR (if at all) then finish up in On1. Then save it back to LR. Not sure about it simplifying your work flow but it will give you more options. Not one regret in the investment.

What is your workflow? What parts are not simple enough? And, what parts need to be speedier?

I use both. I have used On1 since version 7 - and like the integration between the two. It does some things better, others not as well, and can get you closer to a truly finished image better than LR can. I still use Photoshop for finishing - that one is hard to top.

Other than a couple quirks in the focus stacking option which I understand is being worked on if not already fixed. I think the end result is dictated by how you intend to present your photo. For social media /internet you can get away with less than perfect PP. Print it... that's where PP starts to shine. You're right Gene, hard to top PS... :)

I switched to ON1 Photo Raw exclusively over a year ago. It does everything that I want in one software package. I was able to drop LR, Photoshop, Topaz and several others. Being able to use develop and effects on layers in a non-destructive workflow is great. Really glad I made the switch.

I use On1 as a plugin for PhotoshopCC and Lightroom Classic. I also use Topaz, Luminar, and NIK as a plugin for the same. I'll probably never consider seriously anything to "replace" Lightroom Class or PhotoshopCC.

This is a link for a for a video comparison of LR and ON1. Keep in mind it is put on by Dan Harlacher who works for ON1. He talks very fast so a couple times I had to back it up and listen again but I thought it was a good comparison. I pretty much have switched to ON1 myself. Hope this link works; if not it should get you into the videos to chose from.

I did not switch, but added both DXO Photolab Elite and On 1 2019 to my tool set.

Every photo is imported into Lightroom, keyworded and renamed, sometimes developed and exported in Lightroom, sometimes developed in Lightroom and finished in Photoshop, sometimes round tripped from Lightroom to DXO then exported in Lightroom or finished in Photoshop, sometimes round tripped from Lightroom to On1, exported from Lightroom or finished in Photoshop.

For me everything still begins and ends in Lightroom where the catalog owns everything.

I also use Nik plugins, Topaz plugins and Topaz Studio along with a couple other products.

The end is that other tools augment Lightroom for me, but Lightroom is still the center of my world for post processing.

I find that the best substitute for PSE for me id Topaz Studio. It has all the bells and whistles needed for PP.

On1 can organize your photos as well as LR, but you don't have to import them anywhere to work on them. You can use Browse to access and edit photos on your Desktop, somewhere else on the hard drive, using an external drive or a cloud based storage system. And then you have all the additional tools at your fingertips -- layers, layer masks, blending modes etc etc. Round-tripping not necessary!

FWIW - Never cared for the old manual method of organizing with a file browser, why not harness the power of the computer and a database to organize search and find items instantly?

Yes, ON 1 can catalog just like Lightroom to speed up searches, but then you are doing about the same work by cataloging a folder vs importing into Lightroom. 6 in one, half dozen in the other, or samey-same ;)

ON1 does not replace Photoshop for Pixel editing, and masking is quite easy in Photoshop with the newer select & mask tool in the latest revision, but as others have said, different tools do things differently, even using different raw engines to decode the raw data giving a different look right off the bat.

I myself love how Lightroom manages my images, I never even think where they are going, with Lightroom my imports are set and forget. They all go to one external drive organized by Date taken, heavily keyworded and cataloged for instant searches or groupings as needed.

I am not one to say which workflow is best; but I do pretty much the same as described by OnDSnap.

Why do you feel you need to catalog your information? I'm a database person and as far as I'm concerned there is no advantage to a catalog over a files system with a fast browser. Especially since one of the most frustrating issues with Lightroom is losing track of images because of catalog or user error. Can't happen with a file structure system especially if you back up in my case using Time Machine since it keeps every bit of information not just the last instance.

I moved away from Lightroom over a year ago to On1 . It has just gotten better over this year with a number of new features and increased speed. In my opinion Lightroom vs On1 - On1 wins. There are still things I need to do in PhotoShop or Luminar when I'm trying something different but with the last release of On1 I don’t see a need to use PhotoShop anymore.
