Also a little ironic was the fact that the reason for visiting Athlone to begin with was because our son in law wanted to see the oldest bar in Ireland. As it turned out, there were some photographic sides to it as well.
I liked this bridge. With the reflection in the center it looks almost round.

The sunburst was an unintentional but welcome addition.

I don't ever remember seeing water so calm and smooth.

Great series. How was the beer at that bar?
Where's the pics of the bar?
The reason the water is so calm in Ireland is because of what the Irish put in to it.

Funny you should ask - we went, we saw, we left. I would have been fine with a dram or two of nice Irish whiskey but having oit precisely measured at 35.5 ml was kind of a turnoff and I was driving.

You might be on to something there. We stayed in a B and B over a pub in a sleepy little town called Beleek. On the left side of the pub one common walled building over was a bar and next to that was an off-site liquor store. Considering the fact that you could see from one end of town to the other, it was kind of funny.
Thanks again Mike, I a glad that you are enjoying the scenery.
Great set - love Athlone - so interesting.

Thank you and good afternoon.
It was very pleasant with several visual gems just waiting to be captured.

Reminds me of my trip to Ireland on my 75th birthday. I stopped in O'Flannagans bar in Limerick. I tasted several brands and found the one I love the most, Red Breast 12, yummm. And every shot was precisely measured to the top of the shot glass. Better than when I was in China and the bartender poured the first on level with the top of the glass, but the second one was short poured to only 3/4 of a shot. When it is $10 a shot, thats enough to complain about!
Nikonbug, I feel your pain. Being short-shotted is unconscionable.
We made a pitstop at Bushmills and my son in law and I tried Blackbush, a 10 year, and the 12 year old Distillery Reserve. I highly recommend the 10 year. The reason to pass was largely due to the fact that I was the only one in the party with an IDP. 😏
