Hi every one. I am addressing this question to real estate professionals of which I am a real estate photographer and having trouble with my real estate agent being able to upload my shots to the Paragon system.. I am sending an image size of 640x427 pixels @ 72 resulting in a file size of around 150~200k. I don't understand why she cannot get them into Paragon . My client says she cant "resize" to fit. I don't know why she needs to resize what Im sending since Paragon told me the dimintions should be 640x480? Help.

I don't know how Paragon comes up with 640x480? what can I do to bring the 427 up to 480? Paragon tech told me the size could be up to 10mb. I have always sent out around 1mg files with no problem..

What you're doing is correct unless the image really needs to be exactly 640x480 and yours is too small to fit the page space. You might ask to physically watch your client in action in case they are misunderstanding the process and / or the message received when working with your files leading them to think the problem is with the file. Alternatively, if they have a file that they've loaded successfully, ask them to send you a copy and then alter a test image of yours to mimic the resolution attributes. You might also crop to this exact 640x480 dimension and see if that resolves the issue.

According to the online Paragon help pages: http://paragonconnect.paragonrels.com/paragon/input-maintenance/item/80-new-listing-input
the max image size they want is 1280 x 960, and 125K file size. However, in a different post: https://www.paarealtors.com/MLS/Paragon_Photo_Resizing.pdf, they say 640 X 480 resolution or less and 32kb in size.

Very confusing. Perhaps it depends on which version of the software that MLS is using.

Judging from the screen shots on their site, it seem like a "clunky" interface.

If you use Lightroom, you create an export preset that will give you 640x480 and you can also specify a maximum file size as well. Just make sure you crop your image to a 4:3 aspect ratio. You can get the same results with other software, but it will take a little calculating to get to the same result.

A clunky interface. Ha! That doesn't begin to describe Paragon!

This will probably only add to the confusion (typical with Paragon) but here is my two cent. For what it's worth, I am a licensed Realtor, with access to Paragon, but essentially make a living as a Real Estate Photographer. I like to give my clients a larger file than is required by Paragon, as many of them like to make books as momentos for their clients, which requires more resolution. They make nice closing gifts. As of late, I end up giving them files that range from 250 kb to a meg, with dimensions of 1600 x 1066. I basically came to this by experimenting with the goal of sending them the biggest files I could, in the form of a zip folder, that would never be more than about 22 megs (typically 35-45 photos), so as not to bump up agains email attachment limits.

Given all the different sizes I have experimented with, I have to think your client is doing something wrong trying to upload the files. I have some technologically challanged clients who have me upload the files for them, so I agree with whoever it was who suggested doing a remote session so you can see what steps they are taking to upload the files. And what is really sad is that once uploaded to Paragon the files are compressed and look terrible compared to the original files, regardless of the file size.

Pad with white canvas pixels.

640x480 dates back to the very early use of digital cameras for real estate ads. It’s a 4:3 aspect ratio.

HI Gene. I figured out the aspect ration which is 4:3. I am using 72 as my resolution. I do not know what the maximum file size should be Gene. I don't want to make it so small that it affects the quality of the image.. can you advise? When I export using 4:3 ratio the file size varies from 100k ~220k I want to assure that the image quality stays good. I read that Paragon wants image sizes less than 100K. If I click the "maximum file size box to limit 100k, will that give me poor quality?

Hi Burk thank you for your response. I am using a 4:3 aspect ratio for image dimentions, a resolution of 72ppi, quality @ 100%, and the image size varies from 100K ~ 330K. What image size do you recommend that I use if I click on the "limit size to:"box?

Image size is *not* file size. They sound like they want a 640x480 pixel size image. Did they give you a file size limit?

By the way, 85% quality JPEGs are virtually indistinguishable from 100%.

‘72dpi Resolution’ is irrelevant. Pixels are numbers for color and brightness levels. They have no size. A 640x480 image can be a postage stamp to a wallet size print. Beyond that, resolution is poor.

Hi Burk. thank you for the correction. the only thing I don't know from paragon is the file size limit. I did not select the box to limit to 100K, so as a result the file sizes range from 150k~350K should I check the limit to 100k box ?

Probably so. That’s a big file size for a 640x480 JPEG.
