A Shy Photographer on Maui. {3 of 3]
I recently went to Hawaii with a group of friends. It was a wonderful time, but being a guy who enjoys Photography, I would wander alone taking pictures of Sea Turtles, birds and flowers. One afternoon I decided to push my comfort zone and go for a walk down the beach and ask total strangers if I could photograph them. My only criteria was there had to something about the individual that attracted me. I had 7 takers and no rejections which surprised me. This is Randy, an Army vet living out of a van and Nick's partner and Barbara a lovely woman who I know nothing about except I was drawn to her sad or tired looking eyes.
After making my pitch, if I got a “yes”, we would chit-chat a bit. I would then take a few photographs which I showed to them and asked if they’d like digital copies. If they said yes, most did, I gave them my contact information. So far I’ve heard back from and returned photos to 5 subjects and everyone has been happy with the results.
Good for you-great idea, great photos-well done!
Good work on all of these photos--nice informal portraits.
Great shots. Hope you enjoyed your trip to Maui.
Thanks, Charlie.
Loved the climate. I’d go back some day, but living on an island is not for me.
