Someone kick me. Newbies, pay attention.
I hear complaints all the time about people posting photos that should have been thrown away.
Well, call me stupid. I shouldn't post them but here's a lesson for all newbies. DO not lose your original photos!
probably the best humming bird picture I ever took was in 2008. That was the #1 photo here, the first hummingbird photo I ever made. Before that, I was into flowers, weddings and horses. Hummers didn't even enter my mind.
I wish I had the originals, but I don't and my biggest mistake of all was over processing these. As you can see, I didn't know much about PP at the time.
So, that's what happens when you over-do and can't go back and find the originals to RE-do.
Good luck, newbies
I don't do much bird photography, but I am no stranger to over PP. I would happily PP the heck out of my originals and puff my chest out as I posted them on facebook.
I leave them up as a reminder to myself of what a fool I was.

Yep. I even thought about framing these and sticking them all around my monitor, so I won't do it again. It was a hard lesson.
Jeez, you make it sound as if they are all terrible. They are not that bad at all considering that they are not the originals! The are actually very pretty!
So don't kick yourself too hard. There are a couple of people who do take really good pictures of hummingbirds here, on UHH. One of them is a guy from the Midwest who takes very good photos of hummers. He has had days, and days of experience though. Hard to beat experience.
In other words, just start over. You have the experience.

Well, gee, thanks Tom. I'm not gonna kick MYSELF, so do me a favor and YOU kick me.
I still have the blue-black Salvia that the hummers and butterlies love so much, so maybe I can catch a few on that. I'd rather take them there than at the feeder if I can.
It's suppose to be cooler tomorrow, maybe a chair on the pario near the Salvia is a good idea.

consider your self kicked, but I agree with tainkc, they are not bad at all. they are better than any of my bird shots, and i am a sucker for vibrant colors. consider yourself also patted on the back

dang this double posting. as the zen master basho once said, ' a flute without any holes is not a flute, but a donut without a hole is a danish.! contemplate this on the tree of woe!
Don't be too hard on yourself, Jo. I'm glad I haven't been faced lately with any of my earlier efforts! Maybe I'll stay lucky and they'll remain in the dark corners of my hard-drive! And BTW, your advice to newbies is valuable!
I count myself lucky to be a amateur. How can you get better with nothing to compare to.

Way too critical on these shots, many would be proud to have taken them! We are our own worst critics sometimes, which I guess helps us grow!!
So what was your point? Was it a wish to return to the "50's" again. Phony up old results with PP? Or Just admire what was then and what you are able to do now. There are a lot of us who still rely on our eye, ability and digital's gift of low cost "do it again", over and over, to get the correct shot! Back in the Koda and Ekta--Chrome days I rolled my own cassettes from bulk , Spiritone supplied, film into multi exposure rolls. Processed(note I don't say PP)them in my dark room and "manipuleted" exposure thru my enlarger and the use of dodging tools. Now My K10d does all that for me. Oh, sure, I will turn to Google's Picasa to straighten, or crop---but my camera does most of the work.

Who Needs PP?
Horseart if they had been my earlier photographs I would not be complaining far from it.they are lovely.
Horseart i would'nt dare show my earlier shots and even now i delete many more than i post these pics look great to me..Good work.
Corel PaintShopPro automatically saves original or warns if this is not possible.
Yes thank you for the advice just the same.
