Just watched the 18 minute video explaining how it will work. It is a free update for previous owners and I must say I was very much impressed. Most importantly it allows files to be treated exactly the same whether inside the library or out, keeps track of name changes whether they are made inside the program or out, many intuitive ways to collect images in sub groups no white spaces only zero border images on display that are easily changed in size. The list goes on and on. So for sure come Dec. 18 I know where I'll be spending some quality time exploring the new library function.

I'm using a beta Luminar 3, and have been a Luminar user from the beginning. Very impressive and much more intuitive than LR and PS. When I installed Luminar 3 it asked where me images were stored, I selected my external drive and Luminar 3 simply displayed my 40,000 images in the Library tab. It' easy to refine the selections using ratings, colors, picks etc, you can also select the folder you want to use. Very impressive.

I'm interested in trying this when it comes out. Is there any sense that it will conflict with LR's catalog in any way?

Assuming the same image is in the catalogs of the two apps, how would Luminar know about edits performed in LR? Or, vice versa. Unless they are engineered to work with each other (why would that happen?), they'll cause issues for each other.

brucewells, are you currently using the beta version of Luminar or just assuming?

If I knew the answers to those questions, I wouldn't have asked. I've been in the software business for about thirty years now. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen a competing product do something to attempt to "own" the environment when installed. I don't know that Lightroom or Luminar would do that. I would hope not, can't think of any reason either would, but thought it prudent to ask before diving in and creating a potential mess.

Bruce, that's a good question. Luminar 3 at this time doesn't have an "import from Lightroom" yet, it's on their 'features to be added list'. What I think is happening is Luminar 3 Beta is using the raw image file without Lightroom Classic adjustments.

I bought luminar 2018 about 3 weeks ago and I love it, they give you a lot of tutorials on it and some freebies, and I could get a free update when luminar 3 comes out on Dec. 18.A great program for 59.00, well spent and not to hard to understand the program. Thanks James Bianco

I had Luminar last year but it was so slow and sluggish on my computer (Windows 10) compared to LR that I returned it and they gave me credit. I would like to use it if it has gotten any better. Has it?

30 years of database design/programming help me make the statement. Two different apps can 'talk' to each other, but it must be programmed to happen.

I'd say you are spot on, which means edits won't be shared between apps.

Bruce, I just did a test to see how Luminar would deal with an image that I processed in Lightroom. I took an image and converted it to B&W. I then located the image in Luminar and it is the original color image. So it looks like Luminar is taking the unprocessed image and brings it into Luminar.

I wonder how the 'Import from Lightroom' feature will work. Im guessing it will port over Keywords, ratings, and maybe processing done in Lightroom.

I bought Luminar. Running version 1.1.1. Never been able to uodate it. Update runs says done but still running 1.1.1. WTF. Anyway I like the program but this has been an anoyance. Hope the new version is an installer and not an updater.
