If you hang around any hobby long enough, you will find something that evaded the factory QC process and got out into the hands of customers. What photography-related items do you have or have you seen that came with a manufacturing defect.

Many years ago (1980-83) I was shooting 8x10" B&W film for a museum. We used many types of film emulsions. One time we had an entire case (perhaps twenty 100 sheet boxes) of Kodak Contrast Process Ortho 8x10" film (slightly lower than Kodaklith in contrast) that was defective. The sheets in several boxes that I tried to use had a uneven emulsion coating (application). We would get stripes across our negatives along one edge of the sheets of film. My guess Kodak had a few clogged spray heads in the manufacturing line or e few of the heads just ran dry. We called it in and returned the remainder of the case to the supplier. We kept the open boxes and those could be cut down to 4x5" and use the "good" end of the sheets to play with.

Maybe I’m wrong. But wasn’t 35mm film labeled 135 back in the 50s?

It still is. The ‘135’ differentiates it from movie film and unperforated long roll portrait film. It means it is pre-loaded in cartridges.

I did not know that. Thanks. I’ll add it to my trivia file.
