I have always thought of Silverfish as being more silvery and Firebrats as having a more patterned body but what do I know?
Nice pics.

Brenda,you know every stuff
Jumping bristletail, and a good picture of one! These insects have some remarkably 'primitive' characters in the form of bases of vestigial legs on their abdomen. You can see some of the 'styli' which are small appendages that come out of these leg bases.
Fabulous images. Job very well done!

The bristletail is in the family Machilidae. The silverfish and firebrats are Lepistomatidae. They run but cannot jump.
The one you shot, the Machilidae, is more outdoor, in leaf litter. They jump quite well. They are more robust than others, more armored.
I am sending the excerp From my Ento text.
A whole different language,in a way.
