I'm thinking of entering a local photo contest...
In this contest you can enter many different categories, but only one per category.
I'm trying to choose between these photo's.
I can only enter one of the Butterfly photo's but not really sure which one of these three I want to submit.
The last photo I'am going to enter, I think it is interesting.
These have to be printed out as 8x10 photograph's.

I like the second one. It shows the butterfly clear and the background looks good.

8x10s will require cropping, no?

Yes, it looks that way

Maybe you might want to crop and re-display for comments as they will look different.

I like the third butterfly, the others have a busy background, in the third it's more isolated (emphasized). Maybe the first as a close second.
The statue is neat.
(But don't rely on my judgement for selecting, I usually never agree with judges. )

A question you need to ask yourself is "what is there about these images that will capture the judges attention and give them an 'aha' moment?" Who are the judges? Professional photographers will be looking for things other than a non-photographer will be looking for.

I would prefer the third butterfly. It's open all the way and shows off well; the background isn't as busy; the colours are nicely complimentary.

The age old question: do I go with what 'does it' for me? or do I go with what I hope 'does it' for someone else?

Which image 'does it' for you?

When I post a series of photographs I am always surprised by viewers responses. What I particularly like is often not even mentioned. So I always go with what pleases me while appreciating what some one else finds noteworthy. I like #2 with #1 being a close second. #3 has too much empty space in the upper left corner. JMHO
